Use case
Turn a comment keyword into a DM.
Someone comments your keyword on a post or Reel. DripDM posts your public reply and sends the private message.
4 minute read
What the rule does
You pick the keyword and the DM text. You can also write a short public reply.
The public reply stays on the post. The link goes to the inbox, where it is easier to open.
- Works on feed posts and Reels.
- One keyword can point at one offer.
- A tracked link counts taps on every plan.
A simple setup
Use one keyword that you also print in the caption.
- Keyword: LINK.
- Public reply: Sent. Check your DMs.
- Private DM: the offer URL and one line of context.
Which posts the rule watches
A comment rule has a Watch setting with three choices. Every post and Reel. One existing post or Reel. The next post or Reel.
Choose Next post or Reel when the post is not live yet. Turn the rule on before you publish. The wait starts at that moment. DripDM uses the earliest post or Reel published after that time.
Open Automations after you publish. DripDM attaches the rule to that post and shows a notice. A later comment can also attach the rule when a newer post exists. The rule then watches only that post. Dismiss the notice on the Automations page.
A draft does not start the wait. Turn the rule off to stop the wait. Turn it on again to start a new wait. Older posts stay outside the rule. Edit an enabled next-post rule and the wait keeps the same start time.
Plan notes
Comment rules are on the free plan, including Next post or Reel. The free plan includes 1,000 DMs a month.
Pro adds a follow gate, a reminder, product cards, and a run against older comments.
Free is $0. Pro is $9. Growth is $14. Business is $29. Prices are per month.
Build an offer-specific comment handoff
For a downloadable checklist, scope a comment rule to the launch post and use CHECKLIST rather than a generic YES. Write a public reply that directs attention to the inbox without exposing contact details. In the private reply, name the resource and give one clear next action. Exact matching suits a caption that asks for a single word; contains matching accommodates a sentence that includes it. Test both a matching comment and an unrelated comment before publishing the call to action.
If several posts use the same keyword, set Watch to every post and Reel, one existing post or Reel, or the next post or Reel. An account-wide keyword can deliver an old offer under a new campaign. Choose Next post or Reel, turn the rule on, and publish. DripDM attaches the rule to the earliest new post or Reel. Open Automations to see the notice. The rule then watches only that post. Keep campaign URLs distinct when you want separate click counts. Do not describe a click as a purchase or a captured lead: the link report measures interest in the destination, while checkout and explicit contact capture answer different questions.
Prepare a test before asking your audience
Connect an eligible professional Instagram account through Meta login, or a Facebook Page on Pro or above. Select the intended account before editing a rule. Confirm the destination opens on a phone and that the offer matches what the caption promises. Use a second, eligible account for a real trigger test; an editor preview cannot prove provider delivery.
Inspect the public reply, private message, and destination separately. A successful public reply does not prove that the DM was delivered. Keep a record of the test time and inspect activity when something fails. Check permissions and rule scope before repeatedly triggering the same recipient. Disable a stale campaign rather than leaving an expired offer running.
Capacity, permissions, and realistic outcomes
Free includes one account, 1,000 DMs per month, 100 contacts, and 10 captured leads. Pro is $9 per month for three accounts and adds the follow gate, one follow-up nudge, scheduling, product cards, older-comment replay, and Facebook Pages. Growth is $14 for three accounts with 1,000 monthly AI credits. Business is $29 for ten accounts, five seats, and 2,500 AI credits. Paid messaging, contact, and lead quotas are uncapped in the plan configuration; Meta restrictions still apply. Sheets is a Business entitlement and needs provider authorization. Direct Meta Ads audience export is disabled, including on Business.
A comment can qualify for one private reply, subject to Meta eligibility and time limits. It does not itself open a general 24-hour conversation window. The recipient must reply before ordinary follow-up messaging can use that window. A link click or a new follow is not a substitute for an inbound message. Delivery also depends on account permissions, token health, recipient settings, and provider rate limits.
Questions
Put the link in the DM. Keep the public reply short so the comment stays clean.
Yes. A Reel comment uses the same comment rule as a post comment.
Yes. Choose Next post or Reel and turn the rule on first. Open Automations after you publish. The notice confirms the post. The rule then watches only that post.
No. It can qualify for one private reply. The recipient must reply before ordinary conversation-window messaging is available.
Check the actual trigger, delivery activity, recipient reply, and destination separately. A scan, queued job, or link tap is not a completed sale. Use your booking or checkout system to confirm the final outcome.
