Inbox operations
Automate the repeatable part. Own the exception.
Automation and manual engagement solve different problems. A keyword can deliver a predictable destination. A person can investigate an unclear request, correct an error, and take responsibility for the reply.

Choose by uncertainty, not message volume alone
Use a rule when the trigger and answer are specific. Sending a requested menu, checklist, or booking destination is a repeatable task. Do not describe a link delivery as a completed booking or sale. Keep the promise narrow enough that an operator can test the expected response.
Use a person when the answer depends on facts the workflow does not know. Refund disputes, unusual delivery problems, and conflicting product information need investigation. Sensitive questions may require a more appropriate support channel. More messages do not make an uncertain answer suitable for automation. The important distinction is whether the reply can be reliably bounded, not whether a team feels busy.
Write a handoff policy before the first exception
List the situations that should move to a person and name the responsible operator. Include an explicit request for human help, an unclear question, and a reported wrong answer. Tell recipients when they are interacting with automation rather than letting a scripted reply appear to be personal investigation.
Meta recommends identifying automated experiences and documents escalation through custom inboxes or supported handover mechanisms. Those platform descriptions are not proof that DripDM implements every mechanism. For this workflow, use the existing inbox and conversation pause control. An escalation policy is a team procedure, not a newly invented automatic routing feature. Decide who checks unresolved conversations and how they communicate ownership.
Select the account, then pause the conversation
In DripDM’s inbox, choose the connected account whose conversation you need. Conversation lists are scoped to the selected account. Open the relevant thread and read the recent exchange before acting. Matching a display name alone is not a reason to reply from a different brand account.
Use the conversation’s Automation on/off toggle to pause automation before taking over. Confirm that the control shows Automation off and that the update succeeded. Then write the manual reply in that thread. Sending a manual reply is not a substitute for setting the pause. The implementation stores the conversation state; this article does not promise a timed pause, automatic expiry, or automatic resumption.
Keep platform permission during human handling
A human-written message sent through an API still needs applicable messaging permission. A comment’s initial private reply is separate from ordinary follow-up messages. Meta requires the recipient to respond before ordinary follow-ups to that private reply. Do not treat a manual inbox button as permission to send an otherwise ineligible promotion.
Meta documents a separate Human Agent window for qualifying human responses, but that is not a promise of DripDM support for every tag or extension. Use the actual product behavior and applicable conditions. If the platform rejects a reply, review the latest inbound interaction and connection state. Do not repeatedly retry or assume a higher billing tier can open a closed conversation.
Fix the source of confusion before resuming
A person should answer the immediate question and inspect why the workflow failed. An outdated destination needs correction in the rule, not just in one manual message. An ambiguous keyword may need a narrower invitation. A policy exception should remain with the person who has authority to decide it.
If the conversation can safely return to automation, explicitly review and change its pause state. Do not promise it will resume after a fixed interval. Check scheduled activity separately and avoid overlapping answers. Some recipients should remain paused because their request no longer fits the standard workflow. Treat resume as a deliberate operational decision rather than a reward for clearing the inbox.
Review quality without inventing a scale contest
Compare the work each method actually completed. A rule may consistently deliver a correct destination while a person resolves an exception. Count duplicate replies, unanswered questions, wrong links, and unnecessary back-and-forth using real records. Do not claim that automation always wins or that manual replies necessarily create better relationships.
DripDM’s Free allowance includes monthly DM limits; manual inbox sends also go through usage checks. Plan limits are separate from Meta messaging eligibility. Choose paid features because they solve a defined need, not because they supposedly bypass restrictions. Review a few real threads regularly and update the instructions. The goal is a clear answer and an accountable next step, not the largest possible send count.
Questions
Do not assume that it does. Use the selected conversation’s automation toggle and confirm Automation off. Manual reply handling and the stored pause state are separate operations.
This workflow uses an explicit stored on/off state. No fixed pause timer or automatic resumption is promised. Review the conversation and deliberately change the toggle when appropriate.
No. API messages still require applicable permission. Meta’s documented human-agent provisions have specific conditions; do not infer product support or unrestricted follow-ups from them.
