Read link taps, not only likes

A Reel can collect likes and still send no one to the offer. The tap count is the number that matches the DM.

Do this

Keep the change small enough to test from a second account the same day.

  • Every plan can track a link.
  • Pro can track three links in one message.
  • A high comment count with few taps is a reason to inspect eligibility, delivery, the DM text, and the landing page; it does not isolate the cause by itself.

Measure the action the offer actually asks for

Likes describe public response, while a tracked link tap describes a destination handoff. Neither is automatically revenue. For a post designed to deliver a resource privately, taps help you understand whether the handoff is being used. Pair them with eligible sends, recipient replies, and destination outcomes where those are available. Do not infer that every low-tap campaign has bad DM wording; the invitation, reach, eligibility, request visibility, or landing page may also be the weak step.

A workflow to try

Record the keyword, destination, and campaign period before launch. Test that the opening DM contains the correct tracked link and that the landing page opens on mobile. Compare the number of requested handoffs with taps, then inspect a few conversations to understand missing actions. If using UTM tags, keep their naming stable so destination analytics can identify the campaign. Bookings, purchases, and signups should be confirmed in their own systems rather than attributed solely from a DM click.

Checks before you change the setup

Repeated taps and changes to the destination can complicate interpretation, so label what the product count represents instead of calling it unique buyers. A successful public reply is not proof of private delivery. Investigate rejected sends and request folders before rewriting the offer. If you experiment, change one relevant element at a time and keep a comparable measurement period. Engagement-rate and earned-media-value tools answer different questions and should not replace the requested-action metric.

Make a small attribution note before reporting results

State which link and campaign period the tap count covers, whether the destination changed, and where later transactions are confirmed. Keep the raw product observation separate from assumptions about unique people or caused sales. If you compare versions, record the change and maintain similar conditions where feasible. A tap tells you that the handoff was used; it does not prove the landing page satisfied the person or the sale happened because of the automation. A transparent report is useful even when some downstream evidence is unavailable, provided it names that gap rather than inventing a complete conversion story.
